Betfair has launched the egaming industry’s first available betting application for the Apple iPad.

The free app, available to download from today and specifically designed for the iPad, will initially be available in the UK and Ireland.

Betfair surprised the industry in October 2006, by leaving the growing Cryptologic network, and building up its own poker network after acquiring poker site Poker Champs and its associated technology company.

Four years later, Betfair's head of poker, Daniel Svard admits the things didn't go accordingly to the plan and the UK-based company moves its poker operations to Bwin-owned Ongame network.

Gabi Campos has been appointed PokerStars' new chief executive, following his departure from 888’s Dragonfish B2B arm last month.

Campos will start in his new role on 4 October, but will start acting as a non-operational consultant to the group earlier than October.
